California Endowment Branding / Communication Strategy / Website Design

The California Endowment, a $3 billion foundation, needed more than a new website. It needed to re-think how it organized and promoted its countless campaigns, programs, and grantees. Swell took the Endowment’s digital presence back to the drawing board and delivered a completely new, modern digital experience worthy of the foundation’s epic mandate, and worthy of a few design awards, too.


The California Endowment was launching a statewide ads program in support of their #Health4All campaign to secure health coverage for all Californians. A static image wouldn’t do. So we decided to make the process of the billboard going up the visual for the website.


Swell redesigned and relaunch a new brand vision and website for Sons & Brothers, a campaign to empower young boys and men of color. We had just five days until President Obama’s announcement at the White House of his new initiative: “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative and “Sons & Brothers.” Our photo team camped out for over a week at the Apex Lofts across the street (thanks Apex!), filming nonstop until the billboard was complete.
